The existence of the gut-brain axis understood as the bidirectional communication between the two organs mainly mediated by the intestinal microbiota is known. Furthermore, the evidence supporting that a balance of the intestinal microbiota is fundamental for a correct dialogue between these two organs has been consolidated.
However, how it is possible to intervene effectively in the event of imbalance or with a view to prevention are less certain, even though various probiotics capable of stimulating the production of neurotransmitters are giving good results.
In this study, the supplement consisting of L. reuteri PBS072 and B. breve BB077 was shown to have positive effects on psychological and physical well-being (sleep) in subjects under stress.
