THE PROJECT
The PRIME project, titled “Processi e pRodotti Innovativi di chiMica vErde”, aims to study, develop and demonstrate advanced green chemistry processes in integrated biorefineries capable of enhancing renewable raw materials, waste and process by-products in highly innovative bio-products and biomaterials .
The project has been funded by P.O.R FESR 2014/2020 Asse I – Azione I.1b.2.2 of Piedmont Region, as part of the Technological Platform for Bioeconomy.
The idea is to favor the development of different sectors and strategic markets in the Piedmont area (bioplastics, agriculture, automotive , textile, cosmetic, nutraceutical, biostimulants)
PRIME’s activities also include the definition and implementation of eco-design criteria for the various bio-products, rethinking their end-of-life in low-impact circular bio-economy chains.
The project, launched on 1 July 2019, has a duration of 36 months and will involve 26 subjects, including 5 large companies, 9 research centers and 12 small and medium-sized enterprises: Novamont (project coordinator), Fiat Research Center, Sinterama, Sedamyl, Environment Park, Italian Institute of Technology, Polytechnic University of Turin, University of Turin with the three Departments of Life Sciences and Systems Biology, Chemistry and the Competence Center for Agro-Food Innovation-, University of Eastern Piedmont, University of Gastronomic Sciences, Fondazione Benvenuti In Italia, University of Trieste with the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Proplast, De Martini, Grinp, Biosphere, Hysytech, Costantino & C, Roelmi HPC, Procemsa Pharmaceuticals, Circ, Reynaldi, Gallicchio Stampi and Verplast.
PRIME is flanked by a High Education and Research Project, which provides for the activation of 15 new training courses that will be developed in relation to the issues under study by PRIME.
The project will allow the training of new researchers for the industrial R&D sector, with a positive impact in terms of employment throughout the supply chain, both at regional and national level.
